At Raising Expectations, we believe in, not just shaping the lives of the youth we serve, but also in providing opportunities for our volunteers to grow. As such, we offer a variety of ways that a volunteer can become more engaged with the work of Raising Expectations. This will allow our Bonner/Adams Scholars, Work-study students, Interns and other interested students to receive heightened responsibilities while learning transferable job skills.

Intern Job Descriptions
The Paired Academic Leader (PAL) role provides aspiring educators and youth development advocates with an opportunity to gain hands-on classroom experience.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Assisting SALs with the creation and delivery of diverse learning tactics to teach STEM concepts to youth through project-based lessons and hands-on activities
- Engaging with students as a mentor, tutor and role model
- Preparing materials and supplies required for program operation
- Maintaining student academic files showcasing work accomplished/completed
- Attending and supervising Saturday enrichment activities (average of one to two Saturdays per month)
- Supporting arrival and dismissal of students
- Supervising children who use RE transportation to and from RE and during RE organized off-site activities (e.g. field trips, social discovery, etc.)
- Bonner/Adams Scholars or Work Study students -or- individuals with prior youth-focused volunteer service
- A commitment of at least 8 hours per week with afternoon availability.
The Instructional Paired Academic Leader (iPAL) role provides an opportunity to gain experience in the day to day management of program operations.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Assisting SALs with the creation and delivery of diverse learning tactics to teach STEM concepts to youth through project-based lessons and hands-on activities
- Attending and supervising Saturday enrichment activities (average of one to two Saturdays per month)
- Supervising children who use RE transportation to and from RE and during RE organized off-site activities (e.g. field trips, social discovery, etc.)
- Monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on weekly data
- Tracking student attendance and absence data
- Providing support for day to day operations
- Managing behavior management process
- Supporting SAL classroom management
- Serving as SAL substitute
- Engaging with students as a mentor, tutor and role model
- Bonner/Adams Scholars or Work Study students with at least one year of RE service -or- individuals with one school year of volunteer service at RE
- A commitment of at least 8 hours per week with afternoon availability.
The Post-Secondary Advisory Coach role will provide support to high school students as they develop their post-secondary plan. The goal is to ensure students are prepared and equipped for life beyond high school.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Supporting STEMWARE curriculum and learning development initiatives
- Supporting college entrance activities such as ACT/SAT Prep, college applications, scholarship applications, etc.
- Maintaining scholarship, internship and enrichment opportunity database for students
- Supporting management, documentation and tracking of student progress
- Designing strategies to maximize college acceptance and funding rates
- Researching college experience and funding opportunities for students
- Coordinating senior events and college entrance activities
- Engaging with students as a mentor, tutor and role model
- Bonner/Adams Scholars or Work Study students with at least one year of RE service -or- individuals with one school year of volunteer service at RE
- A commitment of at least 8 hours per week with afternoon availability.
The Volunteer Development Specialist role will primarily entail management of direct service volunteers who serve as our primary change agents by supporting the core of our program as mentors and tutors.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Learning data-entry and administration for RE’s Salesforce Customer Relationship Management database for volunteer management
- Coordinating volunteer schedules including changes
- Overseeing management of volunteer documentation (application, online orientation, etc.)
- Serving as liaison between volunteers and RE staff and providing appropriate feedback
- Serving as point of contact for daily communication and recommendation requests
- Ensuring adherence of volunteers to sign-in and sign-out procedures
- Coordinating volunteer appreciation activities and acknowledgment of service initiatives
- Engaging with students as a mentor, tutor and role model
- Bonner/Adams Scholars or Work Study students with at least one year of RE service -or- individuals with one school year of volunteer service at RE
- A commitment of at least 8 hours per week with at least 2 days of afternoon availability.
The Nonprofit Development and Event Specialist role will provide an opportunity to gain experience in and familiarity in a broad range of areas such as fundraising, philanthropy, community engagement, urban education, children's issues, youth development and the day-to-day operations of a nonprofit organization with a community impact.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Proposing fundraising and donor cultivation events
- Coordinating and supporting special events for donors and community partners (may include some Saturdays and late evenings)
- Preparing grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and donation requests
- Conducting research and updating grant and donation opportunities
- Managing grant and donor reporting deadlines
- Researching best practices and trends for youth development programs
- Learning data-entry and administration for RE’s Salesforce Customer Relationship Management database for donor management
- Providing support for day-to-day operations
- Engaging with students as mentor, tutor and role model
- Bonner/Adams Scholars or Work Study students with at least two years of RE service -or- individuals with two school years of volunteer service at RE
- A commitment of at least 8 hours per week and one day of afternoon availability.
The Marketing and Public Relations Specialist role provides support for our marketing outreach efforts including supporting our public relations strategy, creating digital and content marketing, and creating a social media strategy and implementation plan.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Supporting the creation of useful content used for marketing and outreach purposes
- Drafting, distributing, and pitching news releases, media alerts, social media postings, and other communications
- Generating interest and promoting monthly events hosted by Raising Expectations
- Reaching out to community organizations, general public, and donors
- Developing and implementing effective social media and marketing strategies
- Creating exciting and informative collateral materials to include a variety of modalities
- Learning email marketing and content creation using RE’s Mailchimp email automation platform
- Bonner/Adams Scholars or Work Study students with at least two years of RE service -or- individuals with two school years of volunteer service at RE
- A commitment of at least 8 hours per week with at least one day of afternoon availability.
