Prior to the pandemic, we often set aside time for social discovery projects; that is, Saturday field trips with the dual purpose of ensuring our kids have fun and new experiences. Learning extends well beyond the boundaries of where one lives or attends school. Studies show that impoverished youth spend the vast majority of their time within 1-2 miles of their domicile. At RE, we aim to change that via our Social Discovery Fieldtrips.
By providing our students access to these experiences in Atlanta, not only are we enlarging their world and the enjoyment they take from it, we’re also building upon the trust that makes everything else we do possible by spending time having fun.
As the spread of COVID continues to become less of a factor, we’re hoping to begin prioritizing these trips again. We’re seeking sponsorships that will allow our students to enjoy some of the experiences that so many take for granted. Here are just a few of the experiences we would like our students to have in the coming months:
- Cirque du Soleil (from $55 pp)
- The High Museum of Art ($16.50 pp)
- Atlanta Botanical Gardens ($27.95 pp)
- The Georgia Aquarium ($39.99 pp)
- Movies: Black Panther II, Till ($16.88 pp)
- The Legacy Museum in Montgomery, Alabama ($25 pp, tickets plus transport)
The main thing that prevents our students from enjoying these activities in their daily lives is cost. Unfortunately, this is a struggle for us as well. We’re seeking sponsorships that will allow our students to enjoy some of the experiences that so many take for granted.
At RE, we believe in addressing students’ academic, social, and emotional needs. We have to remind ourselves sometimes that an important part of being a kid is making time for wholesome and enriching fun. Your sponsorship helps keep our students happy and inspired.
