It’s not just the students who benefit from our wide range of partnerships. One of our bus drivers and her son have been with RE for more than seven years now. Recently, with the help of RE staff, they signed up for the Westside Future Fund’s Home on the Westside program.
A part of the Westside Land Use Framework Plan, this program is designed to improve community retention by helping legacy homeowners find relief from increasing property taxes, and connecting residents to quality affordable housing opportunities.
Space to Grow
Our bus driver said that her old home was in need of drastic repair. Excessive water damage was causing her children to get sick more often with colds, asthma, and other lung-related issues, and these health concerns were also giving her significant anxiety.
After sharing her concerns with RE staff members, we recommended that she apply to the Home on the Westside program. Now, the kids have more space for play and privacy, and she feels better knowing that they live in a safe and healthy environment. Her anxiety has improved, her kids are smiling and seem to have more energy, and they’re all able to continue living in the community they love.
Wrap-Around Support
There’s no way to isolate the many factors that impact youth development. That’s why we partner with diverse organizations and institutions such as the Westside Future Fund to provide support that addresses students’ AND families’ social, emotional, and academic needs… including the need for quality, affordable housing.
